About ScienceDex

What is ScienceDex?

ScienceDex is the definitive interactive platform for NIH extramural funding rankings. We track funding to medical schools, research institutions, departments, investigators, and geographic regions — with rich visualizations and fully open-source methodology.

Our mission is to make NIH funding data accessible, interactive, and transparent. Every ranking on this site can be verified, reproduced, and improved upon.

Data Source

All data comes from the NIH RePORTER system, the official public access database maintained by the National Institutes of Health. We use the RePORTER API and ExPORTER bulk downloads to build our ranking tables, updated annually when new fiscal year data is released.
